Old Heat Meets New Heat

Danny Gilbert in his Heat Days
The Worcester Wolves includes former player Danny Gilbert (picture) and former playcaller Paul James as they visit the Furnace, this Sunday. James commented on the forth coming fixture 'We have got to go out and play with the same intensity as we have done in the last few weeks.' He said: 'We shot the ball extremely well when they came down to us, and if we play our style of basketball, then hopefully that will be enough to get the win.'

James, enjoyed every prize available in the British domestic game, and also led the Heat into the ULEB Cup, during his time in Surrey, and he said he felt that his new team did what was required of them against Guildford last time out: 'When they came down to us, I thought they had quite a similar style of play to when I was there, and we handled them very well defensively. If we do that again this Sunday, I am confident that we can get a result' he added.

In that last meeting, it was former Heat player Daniel Gilbert who was the most influential scorer, with 32 points to his name, whilst Kastytis Normantas added 31 points, and Harry Disy scored 20 points on his return from injury. The Heat began the match well with player-coach Chad McKnight's six points contributing to a 6-13 lead. Wolves battled back with Devin Smith's bucket reducing the deficit to 17-18 before a Julius Joseph three gave Heat a 17-21 advantage.

Joseph began the second quarter as he ended the previous one with a three and when the former England international drained a two Heat led 25-35. This seemed to spark Wolves into life however, with Daniel Gilbert levelling the match at 35-35 and the Worcester run continuing for another nine points before Heat troubled the scorers again. Kastytis Normantas was creating problems for Heat and he put his team 46-37 up before Daniel Sandell finished the first half action at 46-39.

Seven points early in the third quarter by Normantas kept Heat at bay before a Harry Disy three ignited a 19- 6 run by Wolves. Gilbert contributed 10 points in the burst as Worcester led 76-55 heading into the final stanza. A 20 point lead was always going to be a long way back for Guildford and that's how it proved to be. Wolves were soon 89-58 in front and never let their advantage fall below 25 (92-67) for the rest of the match.
